Joanna Guldin-Noll – Social Media, Disinformation, and the Military Community
In this episode of Tipping Spears with Hannah Becker, I sit down with Joanna Guldin-Noll - writer, digital communications expert, and founder of Jo, My Gosh!, one of the largest and longest-running military spouse blogs online. For over a decade, Joanna has built empowering spaces for military families through storytelling, community, and connection.
We talk about her journey from writer to advocate, the creation of PILLAR - a virtual retreat supporting military spouses during deployment, and how online communities have evolved alongside the post-9/11 military experience. Joanna offers sharp insight into the growing role of social media as a “third place” for Millennials, the importance of digital literacy, and the challenges posed by AI-generated disinformation and foreign manipulation targeting the military and veteran population.
From the early days of blogging to managing social media for major military publications, Joanna reflects on what gives her hope for the future of the military community, and how we can all practice more intentional, informed engagement online.
